Austin Kyudo

KyudoWelcome to Austin Kyudo, we are a non profit study group that meets weekly at Rising Sun Aikido, we gather for practice to learn and promote the art of Kyudo (literally the way of the bow).

To those new to Kyudo, it is Japanese Archery, it is a martial art that focuses on bettering one self through self discipline and hard work, as much as using a bow and arrow. We practice a modern Kyudo form established by the All Japanese Kyudo Federation (ANKF; Japanese: Zen Nihon Kyudo Renmei).

Though there is no formal instructor or Sensei, we are three Nidans (2nd degree) who study under the South Carolina Kyudo Renmei. To clarify and respectfully, we are not affiliated with Heki Ryu Bishu Chikurin-ha school of Kyudo, which there is also a study group located at the Austin Shambhala Center.

We meet every Sunday from 4:30 – 6:00 (unless otherwise stated). Please feel free to come by to observe and find out more information on practices as long as they contact us in advance of attending.

For those serious about Kyudo we suggest you look into purchasing a copy the Kyudo Manual Volume 1: Principles of Shooting (Shaho) Revised Edition.

If you plan to attend a class please contact us first by email or phone and dress in modest athletic clothing (white t-shirt and black or navy pants).
